Solange Knowles’s homespun variation on her famous sister’s R&B has little to do with Grizzly Bear’s considered indie music—or so you think, until you hear Solange’s cover of “Stillness Is the Move” by art-house rockers Dirty Projectors. Connections appear. Differences blur. And the scene keeps expanding: Solange met Devonté Hynes through rapper Theophilus London and asked Dev to produce her next album on the spot. Chris Taylor’s Terrible Records released the single. Unfortunately, there’s no CBGB or Studio 54 where fans can reliably gawk at this scene in action—it’s a moving target. But that’s where Twitter and Instagram come in. You can follow these guys and all their tours, dinner parties, holiday getaways, drunken karaoke sessions, and Fashion Week gallivanting, but one warning: Severe lifestyle envy may apply.
